Shishunala Sharifa known as ‘Kabir of Karnataka’ was a mystic and the first Muslim saint of Karnataka to compose poetry in Kannada. Born on 7th March 1819, he has his early education at Kuli Matha. Shishunala Sharifa came into contact with Govinda Bhatta, a Brahmin who was liberal and unconventional in his outlook and a jnani (man of wisdom). He took Shishunala Sharifa as his disciple and helped him develop spiritually.
