The Asoka pillar was unvield in 1948 by then Governor General Rajgopal Achari, to mark the birth of Jayanagar in South Bangalore. It is a 20 feet tall structure, and was built at a cost of Rs 3000. Right on top are four lions akin the National Emblem. It also bears Mysore's royal emblem, the two-headed mythological bird Gandabherunda.
